DESCRIPTION: APW - Rockford, 15J, Model 3, 18S, gold-filled false box hinge HC recase with attractive engraving detail including an idyllic castle scene to center rear, surrounding floral detail to front and rear, fancy white and yellow enamel DS dial with image of a cock holding a feather in its beak, outer chapter with Canadian market 13 to 24 hour numerals, gold foil decorations, and red glass insets at 15-minute positions, fancy gilt Louis XV style hands, SW-LS, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#220318. A strikingly attractive and unusual fancy dial, we have not been able to track down any leads as to the meaning of its distinctive cock and feather image.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, winds and sets quite stiffly, overhaul recommended to address this issue, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, superb two-tone color, few scattered micro-fine scratches and small surface spots; dial with outer chapter hl at 11:30, outer chapter hl at 1, three tightly spaced hls below seconds-register at 6:30, few minuscule flakes to seconds-register perimeter, some debris at junctions of dial segments suggesting possible re-securing of dial segments at some point; excellent hands; case shows very light wear, some scattered shallow dents to rear, two shallow dents to lower cuvette, slightly reduced engraving detail, few strips and spots of wear to brass to pendant and band bottom, rear with small amount of play at its hinge, bezel is a replacement with two extraneous index notches having no corresponding tabs on case band; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
